The Good Hair Review

Good Hair Movie

If you haven’t seen good hair…you are missing out on some “Good Hair” education.  This was one of the best documentaries Hair Sugar has ever seen and here’s why.  The story is told from the point of view of a man!  Most men are oblivious to the effort, products, time and money black women put into their hair.  Bigger than that, most of the non-black world is oblivious as well.  So what better way to get the world to understand than have an oblivious man (to hair) tell the story?  Chris discovers what different women in the black community define to be “good hair” ranging from natural hairstyles to relaxers and weaves!

What we found to be most interesting was that everyone in this world has a different definition of good hair.  For some that means a weave and for others that means a bald head.  The weave segment was so entertaining!  Women really exhaust extreme measures for a weave or a nice wig. While we don’t suggest forgoing paying bills for a new hairdo, we definitely understand how doing something to enhance your look can make you feel good.  Just make sure the rent is paid!   Nia Long said it best ” A new weave is like buying new pair of shoes”.  It’s the truth!  Hair in general can be your best accessory.  If your outfit or shoes are not as fly as you would like, a fly hairdo will make up for any outfit mismatch.

Chris Rock journeyed to India to the source of where most hair extensions come from and learned about the ritual of hair sacrificing.  We found it ironic that the people of India Chris talked to weren’t as vain about their hair.  For religious reasons, they sacrifice their hair to the gods without hesitation.

Good Hair is a must-see for everyone.  This includes men as well!  Gain a better understanding of your own hair or your mate’s hair so you understand why it takes us 2 hours to get ready.  We also want you to redefine what “good hair” means to you and especially children you interact with.  So many children are raised with their parents ideas of what “good hair” is.  It’s important to let them embrace all different hairstyles before they define what “good hair” is.  No matter which style you decide to wear, OWN it!  For Hair Sugar, all hair is “good”!
